Do you love the service of Montage Resorts but prefer a hotel brand that’s younger, hipper and trendier? Meet Montage’s little sister, Pendry! The brand launched 4 years ago with the opening of Pendry San Diego and they now have 5 locations in the US with more opening by the end of next year. All are terrific destinations for both business and leisure travel – with easy, walkable access to restaurants, shops and cafes. Pendry promises a new brand of luxury through polished comfort and a modern edge, with a focus on design and attentive service in “artful environments” and in “captivating destinations”.
Current Pendry locations include San Diego, Baltimore, West Hollywood and Manhattan West. Upcoming openings include Park City, La Quinta, Natirar (Somerset County) and Washington DC in 2022, plus Cincinnati in 2023.
Book any Pendry property through Journeys Unparalleled and you’ll receive the following complimentary amenities for each room or suite:
- Daily breakfast for two (up to $30 per person)
- One-time $100 hotel credit (for spa or food & beverage)
- One category room upgrade at the time of BOOKING, if available
- Early check in and late check out if available at the time of arrival / departure.
Today we’ll introduce you to Pendry Chicago which opened June 2021 in the former Carbide & Carbon building; locals call it the “champagne bottle building” because of its shape. Originally built in 1929, this was Chicago’s first art deco building and they’ve very much kept that deco look and feel throughout the hotel.
This landmark building is located in the Loop on Michigan Avenue, on Chicago’s world-famous Magnificent Mile and steps from shopping, dining, museums, the Bean and Millennium Park, major subway lines, and Wrigley and Soldier Fields. But if you don’t feel like walking, you can make use of their complimentary 24/7 car (and driver!) service within a 3-mile radius and go, for example, to Oak Street Beach. (Fun fact: did you know that Chicago is the only major city in the US with downtown beaches?) Or you may want to hop on one of their complimentary bicycles and explore the city on wheels.
Their 364 rooms and suites feature 20-foot ceilings and ample space. Their smallest rooms are 375 sq. ft., large by big city standards! Since this is a 40-story building, there’s not a bad view in the house, and you can choose to look out onto Michigan Avenue, Lake Michigan, or the Chicago skyline.
Pendry Chicago boasts Les Clefs d’Or concierges as well as chef Donald Young, Chicago’s youngest Michelin-starred chef. Young helms the hotel’s French brasserie and shellfish bar, Venteux (French for windy…get it?), offering a contemporary twist on French cuisine. Other dining options include Bar Pendry (intimate, sexy and featuring amazing mixologists), Venteux Cafe (you’ll feel like you’re in Paris enjoying breakfast or a snack of crepes and pastries) and Chateau Carbide (24th floor rooftop terrace open seasonally and offering a full sushi menu and themed cocktails).
They even have an on-property Billiard Gallery, a swanky hideaway for both artists and pool sharks alike. This is where you’ll find Margot practicing her bank and masse shots the next time she’s in Chicago. You’re invited to join her…but bring cash!
