Clients and great friends of Journeys Unparalleled (a family of 4 with two young boys) just returned from a trip to Costa Rica with Backroads. We asked them to share their frank feedback, and this is what they said of their Costa Rica Family Multisport Adventure Tour:
“This was a really great trip, among the best family trips ever. Here are our notes:
- The tour leaders were stupendously awesome. Relaxed, great with the kids yet professional and constantly on top of things. There was one tour leader for each family.
- Avianca flights worked great. Even with the 3am wake-up, the kids were good sports.
- Biking was the kids’ favorite activity but, that said, it’s hard with small kids and so many hills. We didn’t get much family biking time, although I did all the routes myself. [Each family member can choose to do as much or as little of the biking and activities as they wish.]
- Car exhaust when biking on the road was an annoyance, but Costa Rican drivers are very courteous and drive pretty safely around bikers.
- Accommodations were a great balance of quality and family-friendliness. Everything was clean, quiet, spacious, with beautiful views.
- Family trips with other families, including ones we’ve just met, work great because kids can play with each other.
- Lots of room changes, but wasn’t really as big an issue as I feared. [On this Backroads trip there were 5 different hotels.]
- Backroads is really expensive but you get what you pay for: really professional leaders and local guides, excellent accommodations, good food, fun family-friendly activities that are planned and organized so you don’t have to worry about anything.
- If I were to compare it to Kauai, I would say travel to Costa Rica is definitely an issue because not only are the flights longer, but getting from San Jose to somewhere interesting also takes a few more hours. Kauai has better beaches whereas Costa Rica has more wildlife.
We really enjoyed it so thanks for booking it for us!”
