If you are like our families and planning to stay home this MLK weekend, why not plan some edutainment to keep everyone engaged, dreaming about travel, and hopeful about the world and its people. We’re offering three virtual tours this weekend, all live streamed from Brazil. We hope you’ll be able to join us for one, two or even all three:
Black History – Salvador, Brazil – Saturday, Jan 16, 2021
5pm Salvador Time / 12pm Pacific time / 3pm Eastern time, 1 hour
Salvador – the capital of the state of Bahia in Brazil – is one of the country’s oldest cities and is the most African, as it was a major center of the slave trade during the colonial period. Our guide will live stream from the streets of Salvador so we can understand first-hand the culture of Bahia. While this tour will focus on African heritage and black history, we’ll also get a glimpse into the city’s street food culture, art, and if we’re lucky, maybe even hear some live percussionists or watch a capoeirista.
While our guide will make this tour as family friendly as possible, it is important to note that she will discuss slavery.
Max 10 households (min 3); suggested minimum age 8 but this is at the discretion of each family.
$30 per household
Coming to You Live from the Copacabana, Rio – Saturday, Feb 6, 2021 (rescheduled)
2:30pm Rio Time / 9:30am Pacific time / 12:30pm Eastern time, 1 hour
We’ll be joined by one of our favorite guides as she live streams from Rio de Janiero’s Copacabana, the city’s most famous beach. You’ll feel the spirit of Rio as you walk along the mosaic sidewalk and discover the history of the area. You’ll see the historic Hotel Copacabana Palace, learn about the street food and caipirinha (the Brazilian version of a mojito), and perhaps even samba at one of the kiosks in the area.
Maximum 7 households (minimum 3)
$30 per household
Iguazu Falls – Monday, Jan 18, 2021
3pm Iguazu Time / 10am Pacific time / 1pm Eastern time, 1 hour
Technology is amazing to allow us to live stream with our guide who will be at the world’s largest waterfalls, Iguazu. The falls are actually divided between Argentina and Brazil. While about 80% of the falls are on the Argentine side, that means that you get really amazing views from the Brazilian vantage point. Not only will we learn about the geologic formation of the falls, but we’ll hear a bit about the history of the national park in which it sits as well as about Foz do Iguaçu, the city where the Brazilian falls are located. Experience these magnificent falls with us…without getting wet!
Maximum 7 households (minimum 3)
$40 per household
